"We cannot even begin to imagine the personal and economic devastation that occurred to the already struggling country of Haiti," Ken Wayland, President and CEO, Free Agents Marketing.
Americans are wonderful people. Whenever disaster strikes, be it a hurricane in Louisiana, a tsunami in Asia, or an apartment complex fire on the other side of town, Americans rally to the rescue. While not taken for granted, the outpouring of American support for the Haitian earthquake relief effort comes as no surprise to the Red Cross, but it never ceases to amaze those of us who pass the gifts along to those in need.
Free Agents Marketing is one example of that generosity. The company donated $2,500.00 to the Red Cross, $100.00 for each employee in their Henrico offices. "I've been involved with the Red Cross for a long time as a volunteer," shared the company's general manager, Carl McNeill. "I knew that the money could not be given to a more responsible organization. All of our employees wanted to help and we thought this would be a good way to honor their concerns and also bring help to the people in Haiti."
Ken Wayland, president and CEO of Free Agents and Marilyn Wayland, the company's business manager agreed. "Like everyone, we have been so moved by the pictures and stories of what the Haitian people are facing. We had to do something, we could not sit idly by and watch fellow human beings suffer and do nothing," the couple shared.
Free Agents Marketing is in good company. A week following the earthquake over 60 fundraisers were planned in the region by communities of faith, media partners, schools and civic organizations. Red Cross chapters across the nation have been inundated with people wanting to help. And that help is what makes aid to Haiti possible.
"It is often a humbling experience to be a part of the Red Cross," stated Greater Richmond CEO Reggie Gordon. "The community's faith in us is a responsibility we take very seriously."
